St Lawrence and Highland CourtGreat cricket on your doorstepFor many years, St Lawrence and Highland Court have played their cricket in the idyllic setting of Higham Park, one of the prettiest cricket grounds in the county. The Club has grown dramatically in the recent past and now boasts over 250 members with a further 100 children playing Kwik Cricket on Saturday mornings. We have 200 Colt Cricketers, from Under 11's up to Under 17's and our 1st XI are the most successful club team in the county, winning the Kent Premier League three times in the past seven years. In 2004 we launched a second pitch at the ground and last season we hosted 217 cricket matches - no mean feat for a small Club with limited resources. We believe our strength derives from our amateur ethos and whilst most of our closest competitors, large multi-sport Clubs such as Bromley, pay at least some of their players, our young 1st XI play for the love of the game! This year we are welcoming our first Girls Cricket team and hope to grow Ladies cricket at St Lawrence. We have also hosted Bridge Exiles since 2005 and have been delighted with the energy and enthusiasm they have brought with them.
Can You Help?As with most sports clubs, we depend wholly on the goodwill of our volunteers, who run everything at the Club (with the exception of our groundsmen). Our rapid growth in Youth Cricket has meant that our volunteer resources are severely stretched and we are looking for some fresh faces to help. We have a range of jobs, from Bar Manager, to Facilities helpers and from Under 11's Manager to 200 Club administrator and we desperately need volunteers to fill them.If you love cricket or just want a stimulating volunteering opportunity, we would love to hear from you. Any offer of help, however small will be welcomed with open arms! Just give Christine a ring on 07768 212030 or e-mail her and she'll send you a list of the roles we have available. We can't promise sunshine but we can promise a free cricket tea, good cricket and good company.
Please Come and Watch UsWe would love the local community to come to some of our matches this season. We have plenty of parking, just get to Higham House and follow the signs through the woods! The first date for your diary is our opening match on Sunday 20th April when our 1st XI will be playing the Kent Academy in a friendly. League matches are normally held on Saturday. Our full fixture list will be available in the next Parish Magazine.
