The Village Gardeners
Are you interested in keeping the village looking lovely with the added benefit of some therapeutic gardening, good banter and coffee?
We would love to meet you.
Who are we?
We are a group of enthusiastic gardeners who meet on the third Thursday of every month from March to December.
Where do we meet?
We meet at the pavilion on the recreation ground at 930am then divide into groups for a couple of hours gardening at various locations in the village….before stopping for coffee ( bring your own flask ) and more chat.
What do we do?
We fork over and weed, plant and prune whatever is needed seasonally at
these sites-
- the borders surrounding the pavilion on the recreation ground
- the traffic calming islands at the top of the hill nearest to Canterbury
- the heptagonal planters opposite the Bridge Arms
- the long sweep of border at Green Court
In 2021 we developed, and are still in the process of developing, a new site at the corner of Conyngham Lane and the High Street which we planted up in the autumn with a variety of shrubs, perennials and bulbs. We also planted some Narcissi by the side of the footpath leading up into Canterbury from the allotments. We hope to extend this area year on year to creat a lovely entrance into the village.
In 2022 we hope to complete a project at Green Court where we are ‘re-wilding’ and developing a bee and butterfly friendly space from what was a car park area. A new border was created here in 2018/19 with Gaura, Lavandula and Miscanthus grasses and now we are developing the larger area around it. There will be lots of new wildlife friendly planting, a new path and hopefully in time some seating for us all to enjoy. A new ‘pocket park’ in Bridge.

The Village Gardeners couldn’t do these projects without the support and, very importantly, funding, from Bridge Parish Council.
