Nailbourne Horticultural Society Virtual Spring Show
We now have the results of the two “virtual” classes salvaged and adapted from what should have been our Annual Spring Show on Saturday 28 March.
To remind everyone, for the Chairman’s Challenge, members were given two daffodil bulbs, variety “Ice King”, in the autumn and asked to plant them in a pot not to exceed 5 inches and bring them along on the day of the Show. As this could not happen, members were asked instead to take a photo of their pot of bulbs on what would have been the day of the Show and send it in. Twelve members sent in entries and their photos were sent on to Peter Aplin, one of our regular independent judges, for judging. Peter was more than delighted to do this for our Society although he did comment that it was not quite the same as judging them on the show bench!
Here are the results with photos:
1st: Kathy Walder, 2nd: Linda Ellis, 3rd John Dawson
The other class we managed to run was the photo class with the title “The Nailbourne”. There were eight entries (more than usual!) forwarded to our judge, John Newell, who made the following comments on them. He said that it had been a difficult job to judge them and congratulated everyone on the quality of the images. He was also impressed that people had taken the trouble to go out and find different locations.
The results are:
1st Kathy Walder, with “highly commended” to Peter Fairweather and Julia Cooper.
Finally, a big thank you to everyone who took part and watch out for ideas for a Virtual Summer Show!
