Background on the New Village Hall Development

Bridge Neighbourhood Plan contains the outline of the proposed development now known as Bridge Fields Bridge NP.  In March 2024 a village referendum on the Bridge Neighbourhood Plan was held, 66% of voters were in favour of the Neighbourhood Plan.  The turnout in the village was 48.75%, well above the national average of 32.4%.

Following the Neighbourhood Plan referendum, Bridge Parish Council carried out a consultation in 2024 on the facilities residents would like for the new village hall, which was followed up with two exhibitions, one at the Bridge Village Fete and one at the pavilion together with information shared on the PC website and Facebook.

Using the feedback gained from the consultation, the architect came up with an initial design for the new village hall, based on a traditional barn style building with a Gross Internal Area (GIA) of 623 sq meters.  The estimated cost to deliver the entire project including the carpark and public realm spaces was £4,434,981.

Following the realisation of the significant cost of the initial design and feedback from Canterbury City Council as part of the pre-application process, it was decided to redesign the village hall.

The redesign resulted in a more modern building covering 420 square meters.  The cost of delivering the project is estimated to be £2,821,184 a reduction of £1,613,797 on the previous design.  This redesign was presented at an Extraordinary meeting of the PC (June 25).

Since this time the layout of the village hall has been further refined following feedback from the PC and main users of the Village Hall including the Village Playgroup.

The current design of the hall is a more functional and financially achievable.  This latest design of the village hall was presented to the village in June 2026 to gain to gain feedback and determine the final design.  Public Consultation on the Bridge Fields Development including the New Village Hall Development
