Report on Virtual Spring Show, Saturday 27 March 2021

We were delighted with the response from our members. For those who like statistics, we had 24 exhibitors and a total of 69 entries, including 21 who entered their Chairman’s Challenge daffodil bulbs.

The results are as follows:

The Chairman’s Challenge (and the Whitten Spencer Cup) was won by Jane Lovelock. Second were the Ellises and third, Rajini and Raj Dasan.

The cup for the Best Bloom in Show was won by Jane Millyard with her entry in Class 1.

It remains to thank everyone who kept the Society’s flag flying by taking part.

Groundwater Levels

Here is this week’s graph:

GW figure remains at 86m above their base mark, still well above the trigger levels for Southern Water’s tanker operations so they continue.

The water in Church Meadow is likely away this week or next; the barriers in Mill Lane maybe a bit after that, and the warm weather will speed the trees coming into leaf.

The boundary between the dark blue and the grey is a 5% incident level: so one year in 20, just like last year!

KCC: 2021 Financial Consultation

Kent County Council are holding a consultation on their budget for 2021. They are asking residents to give them feedback on which services should be protected from budget cuts and whether there is support for an increase in council tax to help balance the budget.

A 2% increase would raise a further £14.4million to be spent on adult social care services and increase the KCC element for a band C property by a further £24 (or 46 pence per week).

Mobile Library

Kent’s mobile library service will restart in Bridge from 17th September 2020.

The service will look and feel a little different. It will be delivered on a ‘Select & Collect’ basis, similar to the service currently operating in the open library buildings, with no public entry to the mobile vehicle. Customers will be able to return books and receive books they have pre-selected, alongside being able to talk to the mobile driver. Mobile library routes have been amended to accommodate COVID19 specific staff welfare issues and will run on a 4-weekly cycle.

Our service will be on Thursdays, 15:15-16:00 on rota “Monthly Blue 2”
